When the standard of HTML 5 was finalised in 2014 it allowed developers a unique opportunity to use multiple H1 elements on a page. This allowed for developers and content editors to group theses in a document by sections.

Most recently due to the lack of adoption of this technique the standards have been revised with the introduction of the HTML 5.1, the standard is reverting back to the original. Where you only have one H1 element on any page, and use H1-H6 elements to highlight overall page structure.

This goes to show the way HTML is evolving is very much stuck on how developers adopt new practices or standards. Is this a good thing when it comes to driving the future Web?
